Owners comments
We have owned Melos for many years and have separately made long singlehanded passages aboard. We have loved our boat and she has looked after us during many thousands of ocean miles.

In the last few years we undertook a fairly significant refit which included the following:

  • All teak on exterior replaced and in excellent condition with recent varnish (except no varnish on deck lockers and cockpit slats)
  • Hull and deck painted with Awlgrip (white hull and deck with contrasting gray non-skid)
  • New cushion covers (2008)
  • Curtains
  • Updated electronics

Realistically we are not in a position to make any long ocean passages anytime in the next few years and so we have decided to sell the boat now. She is not luxuriously fitted-out but she is ready to look after her next owners when they set out offshore!

In 1997 the owner had a book published by Sheridan House Press (in both the USA and UK) in which this vessel was mentioned a number of times. A copy of this book will be provided to the next owner of Melos if requested

At the time of writing the following items are not working or require attention;

  • Wind generator regulator
  • Reading light in main cabin –port side

Additionally a new owner should be aware of the following;

  • The propane water heater in the head is believed to be operational and is still connected but it has not been used for many years. It requires a pressure water system which is not installed.
  • The pressure water faucet (tap) in the galley is not connected
  • The current lead-acid battery was installed to allow a last cruise by the present owners. A large Mastervolt AGM can be installed by a new owner if required
  • The main hatch requires new acrylic and re-sealing
